General instructions

Lock Screen is a application that is shown when the phone screen and/or keypad is locked. It can show date and time, various indicators and information about the calendar entries, calls and SMS messages. When the lock screen has been activated, it can show different kind of animations.

The settings can be changed by clicking the application icon. You can change the following settings:

  • Power management settings
    • Disable screen saver. Works only in S60 3.1 devices.
    • Disable power saving. E.g. touch events are still working when this is enabled. Default: off.
    • Show when locked: show the lock screen for a while when the phone has been locked.
    • Force screen off: makes the screen disappear completely. Helps with power consumption. Default: off.
    • OLED low power mode. Activates the OLED low power mode. The most important feature, since the screen can be still shown with decent power consumption level. Default: on.
    • Night mode: minimize the visible content from 9 pm to 8 am. Does not disturb in dark room conditions, but the clock time is still shown.
  • Low power color: select the used text color for OLED low power mode. Default: white.
  • Unlock type
    • Swipe screen right/left/up: swipe the whole screen to unlock the phone.
    • Swipe to unlock. A small swipe control to unlock the phone.
    • Unlock button. A regular push button to unlock the phone.
  • Background animation
    • None: no animation is used.
    • Rain drops, Starfield: build-in animations.
  • Animation duration: the duration of the animation.
  • Animation setting 1: animation-specific setting. Can be e.g. the number of objects to show, speed of the animation etc.
  • Select background
    • Current system theme background (usually this is black)
    • Black
    • User defined image
  • Animations
    • enabled when locked in/out/both. Not really used when swipe unlock is used.
  • Animation type: a transition animation when the phone is locked/unlocked.
    • None: not recommended for phones that has no hardware lock/unlock button.
    • Menu button: press the menu button to unlock the phone.
    • Swipe (scroll from/to bottom)
    • Fade (works well only in S60 5.0 phones.
    • Scroll content.
    • This option is not really used when swipe unlock type is used.
  • Status bar items: all / no operator shown / none
  • Clock type
    • Digital clock
    • Analog clock
  • Clock size: size of the clock
  • Text size: size of the texts shown in the message area
  • Show battery
    • Always
    • Always, small: small version of the icon
    • Only when battery is low or charging
    • In status bar: show always in status bar area
    • In status bar, low: Show always in status bar area when low battery
    • Never
  • Information shown
    • Show calls, sms, mms
    • Show emails: only Symbian email mailboxes are supported (POP3/IMAP).
    • Also content: show the beginning of the content in the lock screen.
    • Show calendar entries. Show todo entries: on/off.
    • Alarm: show the next alarm event.
    • Compact format: show only number of messages/calls.
    • Hide in low power mode: Do not show the messages when the screen is in OLED low power mode.
  • Show lock icon in the screen: always / show when black background is used / never
  • Orientation
    • Automatic: Follow the orientation that was used when the phone was locked.
    • Fixed to portrait or landscape mode
  • Start automatically in boot: on/off. Not required for S^3 phones.
